Shiatsu

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu evolved from an ancient form of Japanese body therapy. Shiatsu works on all energetic levels of your body. Shiatsu involves various techniques using stretching, holding and leaning pressure into various parts of the individuals body, to improve energy, circulation, flexibility and posture.

Pressure and contact is applied through the hands, thumbs, fingers, forearms, knees and feet with the individual sitting or lying. Treatment is focused along specific channels called ‘meridians’ which are linked to the major organs in the body.

Shiatsu provides the following benefits:

  • Stimulates circulation
  • Promotes relaxation
  • Strengthens the body, mind and spirit
  • Alleviates pain and discomfort
  • Supports the body back to its natural balance
  • Improves general health and wellbeing
  • Improves digestion.

Shiatsu effectively assists with a variety of conditions including:

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Fatigue, RSI
  • Depression, Anxiety
  • Insomnia, Migraines
  • Menstrual issues
  • Muscle tension, stress related conditions
  • Pregnancy (pre, during and post)

Aims of Shiatsu

  • To help the individual relax and therefore provide a means to combat the effects of stress.
  • To improve the individual’s lymphatic flow, blood circulation and vitality, thereby boosting the immune system.
  • To help alleviate aches, pains and stiffness.
  • To help both the giver and receiver become more aware of their bodies.

Shiatsu & Pregnancy

Shiatsu is a wonderful way of getting in touch with the positive, natural changes that occur during pregnancy. Shiatsu provides an increased awareness of the body, both physically and emotionally, and offers a great opportunity to tune into your baby.

Shiatsu Treatment

Shiatsu treatment takes place on a soft futon on the floor. Loose comfortable clothing is required as the treatment will often encompass flowing stretches and gentle rotation of limbs.
